HealthTALK on Wednesday: Lecture on dementia-sensitive communication

This Wednesday, 15 November, the second lecture in the GesundheitsTALK series, a cooperation between VHS Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg, the BOHRIS doctors' network and the Bocholt Seniors' Advisory Council, will take place. Dr Elisabeth Philipp-Metzen will speak on the topic of "Dementia-sensitive communication - dealing with challenging behaviour in dementia".

Dr Elisabeth Philipp-Metzen is the project manager of the Borken district care self-help contact office, comes from the Alzheimer NRW state association and is a specialist book author. Her topic "Dementia-sensitive communication" is aimed at family carers, volunteers and professionals and anyone interested.

She explains how the clinical picture of dementia can affect social behaviour and daily interaction. Why do people with dementia sometimes live in a world of their own and how can we reach them there? And how do we react well to aggression and defence? The approach on an emotional level is central here.

The speaker explains basic rules for dealing with people with dementia and teaches practical methods. Case studies from many years of experience illustrate the situations. She will be happy to answer any questions you bring with you on the subject.

Admission fees will be waived in favour of a fundraising campaign to benefit the Landesverband der Alzheimer Gesellschaften NRW e. V. (State Association of Alzheimer Societies NRW). Due to the anticipated large response, the VHS advises people to reserve a place at www.vhs-bocholt.de.

The venue is the Bocholt Media Centre, Hindenburgstr. 5, at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
