The introduction of mammography screening in the district of Borken already dates back several years. Together with the introduction throughout Germany, the programme started for the screening unit Borken/Steinfurt in 2006. In the meantime, the programme has become established. The women from the region of Bocholt and Rhede are invited to the fixed unit in the hospital in Bocholt for screening. The success of the programme for women between the ages of 50 and 69 is well known. The number of deaths due to breast cancer has been proven to be significantly reduced in the meantime. The lecture will report on the successes, the perspectives and also on necessary improvements. The cooperation with gynaecologists and general practitioners as well as the breast centres in the hospitals will also be presented. After the lecture there will be enough time for an open discussion.
The speakers are Iryna van der Most, programme responsible physician (PVA) for mammography screening in the screening unit Borken/Steinfurt, and Dr. Martin Krüger, deputy programme responsible physician.
