Waste separation: small electrical appliances do not belong in household waste

ESB information stand on 4 June between 9am and 12pm on St. Georg-Platz

On Tuesday, 4 June 2024, waste consultant Petra Tacke from Entsorgungs- und Servicebetrieb Bocholt (ESB) will be offering an information stand on the recycling of small electrical appliances at St. Georgs Platz. Citizens can get information from 9 am to 12 pm and hand in their small electrical appliances directly on site.

Batteries must be removed and disposed of separately before handing them in.

Out of the drawer and cellar

Despite increasing collection volumes, many small electrical appliances still end up in the rubbish bin or remain unused in basements and drawers. The aim of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act is to ensure that electrical appliances are no longer disposed of in household waste. Old small electrical appliances, such as coffee machines, contain valuable precious metals as well as substances that are hazardous to the environment and health, such as heavy metals. With professional recycling, these toxic substances are safely disposed of and the raw materials recovered.

Drop-off options for electrical appliances

In addition to being handed in at the waste advice centre's information stand, small electrical appliances can also be handed in free of charge at the ESB recycling centre on Schaffeldstraße during opening hours. Here too, rechargeable batteries and batteries must be removed beforehand and handed in separately. In addition, all shops that sell electrical appliances are obliged to take them back.
