New planters bring more greenery into the city centre
On Bocholt's St. George's Square and in front of the main entrance to St. George's Church, eight new planters have been in place for a few days. They were installed on behalf of the city of Bocholt and are intended to bring more greenery into the city in the future.
Last week, the planters were planted in an insect-friendly way by employees of the waste disposal and service company (ESB). The tubs are made of stainless steel, some also have benches made of oak wood. The wood comes from Bocholt oaks that were felled by the ESB during heavy storms in the past.
The tubs were planted with, among other things, columnar ginkgo, holm oaks, flowering dogwood and blue-oak. Insect-friendly perennial plants are also used. In future, the beds will be planted with seasonal flowering plants.
Tubs can be moved
In the past weeks, the benches have already been well received by the people of Bocholt. "The new planters bring a fresh greenery to the area around St. George's Church and increase the quality of stay," says Daniel Zöhler, the city's building officer.
The planters are also mobile, so they can be removed by the ESB for major events on Georgsplatz, such as the Bocholt Wine Festival, and then put back in place.
Funding through the NRW Rapid Programme
The purchase of the planters was funded by the "Creation of inner city qualities" component of the "Immediate inner city programme to strengthen our inner cities and centres" of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the city of Bocholt.
