Census: Bocholt's population remains constant
Around 72,000 people live in the largest city in the Borken district // Slight increase compared to 2011
Bocholt. The results of the latest population statistics, the so-called census, were presented on Tuesday. For Bocholt, the census shows that the population has remained almost constant in recent years. As of 15 May 2022, a total of 71,985 people lived in Bocholt - that's 432 more or an increase of 0.6% compared to the update based on the 2011 census.
Women make up the majority of the population with 36,612, while men are represented with 35,373. German citizenship was held by 65,436 people; 6,548 had foreign citizenship. The age group of 40 to 59-year-olds is the most strongly represented with 20,411 people. Senior citizens over the age of 60 are also well represented (20,969 people). Children and young people up to the age of 18 numbered around 13,178.
Over 37,000 people in Bocholt are in gainful employment, with the majority (24,600) working in the service sector.
Married or in registered partnerships, 33,083 Bocholters live in Bocholt, while 27,799 are single. Around two thirds of the approximately 33,000 households are single and two-person households.
There are almost 35,000 flats (32,700) in around 21,000 residential buildings (2011: around 19,800), most of which were built in the 1970s. 17,375 buildings are privately owned. The detached house is the preferred form of housing ahead of semi-detached and terraced houses.

The next statistical forecasts are expected at the end of the year. The city of Bocholt currently assumes that a further slight increase in the population can be expected.
