City marketing
Light Sunday on 5 November
Open for business from 1 - 6 p.m.
Light Sunday will take place as an open Sunday on 5 November from 1 to 6 p.m. in Bocholt's city centre, which is seen by the traders in the city as a prelude to Christmas business. Light Sunday will be a welcome opportunity for customers to stroll, browse and shop in Bocholt's city centre.
Large candle pictures instead of light illuminations
Last year, for the first time, large candle images shone in selected squares and in front of buildings to reduce energy consumption. The motto Lichtersonntag and light is to be maintained, so last year's success will be repeated. At seven central locations in Bocholt's city centre (Markt, Nordstraße, St.-Georg-Platz, Ostermarkt, Neutorplatz in front of the Stadtsparkasse, Neutorplatz in the Rondell, Shopping Arkaden), various candle pictures will be set up to create a special atmosphere in the city centre. "We are once again trying to join forces to put on this somewhat different light event in order to do without electric lights for Light Sunday and still create a beautiful atmosphere for shopping and strolling in the city centre," Ludger Dieckhues from City Marketing explains the illumination. "Last year, the weather unfortunately did not cooperate with rain and storms. Hopefully that will be better this year." The THW youth will help the city marketing team with the set-up and implementation. In addition to the candle images, which will be impressive and, above all, atmospheric, the tradespeople in the city centre will also stage their own business with candles and/or lanterns, thus also visually inviting people to come to the shops for a purchase or a stroll.
Fire bowls and baking bread on sticks with pan flute music
In addition to the candle paintings, fire bowls will be set up at the market, where the scouts of the VCP NodAn tribe will offer stick bread baking. The Indian group Mamani will play pan flute music and once again provide a goosebump feeling.
An atmospheric start to the autumn and winter season
"Our Lichtersonntag offers an atmospheric start to the autumn and winter season for city centre visitors and city centre stakeholders. We want to provide an experience shopping and a cosy and pre-Christmas atmosphere and look forward to many visitors whom we can inspire with our Lichtersonntag," says Mechtild Hoffs, chairwoman of ISG Altstadt e.V.
Free parking
On the open sales light Sunday, it is possible to park free of charge in all car parks, multi-storey car parks and underground garages. A free special transport service will be provided by StadtBus Bocholt GmbH at the usual timetable intervals on all city and TaxiBus routes, including those in the outer districts. This means that Bocholt residents who do not want to take their bicycles can travel comfortably to the city centre by bus.
