BOCHOLT HIKES 2025
"We are very pleased that after the great hiking kick-off in September with over 2,000 participants, we can start again next spring on 13 April!", announces city marketing employee, Anna Schmitz, the continuation of the Bocholt Hiking Day next year.
Why in April?
"Many people are certainly wondering why the continuation of "Bocholt Wandert" is to take place in April next year", Schmitz explains further. "This is mainly for pragmatic reasons. We wanted to start a second time from Barlo after the first one.
However, as the Schützenfest is traditionally celebrated in Barlo on the third weekend in September, these two events would compete with each other", says Schmitz. Of course, the local conditions should be taken into consideration.
In addition, September is generally an incredibly busy month for events in Bocholt, as many clubs, institutions and private individuals use the weekends after the summer holidays for events and meetings. So we had to find an alternative date "and we then looked towards spring", says Schmitz. "We are aware that nature will show a completely different face in April than it did in early autumn. We will awaken Bocholt with a spring march and experience how nature awakens from hibernation and get to know the route all over again." If necessary, small route changes will also be made in the course of the following planning steps. However, the start and finish will once again be at Diepenbrock Castle.
Character of the event
"Bocholt Wandert" is of course a sporting event," explains Maria Rickert from the co-organiser, the Bocholt City Sports Association (SSV). "Nonetheless, the family, non-commercial and cross-border character of the event is also very important to us. The proximity to the border with our neighbouring Netherlands is a very special and attractive feature of Bocholt. Anyone who would like to try their hand at hiking is cordially invited to try out one of our three routes on offer and experience the special ambience at Diepenbrock Castle at the same time," continues Rickert.
