These are Bocholt's city reading queens and kings
Bocholt - Bocholt has new reading kings and queens! At last Friday's reading competition, five participants qualified for the regional competition.
The eight boys and girls are only ever allowed to read short passages from their favourite books. Nevertheless, the parents and siblings listen to the short stories, which are sometimes exciting, sometimes hilarious.
Sometimes it's about the strange, hairy and rather unappetising "Fing", who is to become the family's new pet, sometimes about the mysterious expedition of a white vixen and sometimes about an exciting bus journey with the school class.
Ten pupils from Bocholt's primary schools competed against each other in the city final. There should actually have been eleven participants, but one pupil had to cancel due to illness, said Melanie Tenhumberg, head of the city library. She moderated the entertaining evening.
Difficult task for the jury
But even so, it was no easy task for the expert jury, which consisted of representatives from the bookshop "Seitenblick", the Bocholter-Borkener Volksblatt newspaper, the youth welfare and social integration organisation (Jusina) and the city library. Bocholt's deputy mayor Elisabeth Kroesen and two finalists from last year's reading competition were also part of the jury that assessed the pupils' reading performance. "This won't be an easy task," said Melanie Tenhumberg after the reading.
Mia Idziaszek ultimately came out on top. She won first place, followed by Oskar Höing in second place and Luisa Gehrke in third place. Juna Hoffmann and Toni Wenningmann also qualified for the regional competition, which will take place in Rhede at the end of January 2024.
