Open day at the city library
Varied programme for the 100th anniversary // Saturday, 28 September, 10 am - 4 pm // Opening of the Library of Things
On Saturday, 28 September, the city library is holding an open day. On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, interested parties are invited to visit the premises of the city library and familiarise themselves with existing and new services. The highlight will be the inauguration of the new Library of Things. Snacks and two children's readings will also provide refreshments and entertainment.
The city library is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year with various highlight readings and events. The library team is now looking forward to the open day at the end of September to present itself and its numerous services. All visitors can expect a varied programme with the opportunity to find out about existing services and discover new highlights from the library. "A lot has happened in the 100 years that the city library has been around. This can be seen in our current exhibition on the transformation of the library, but of course also in our always up-to-date portfolio of services", says Melanie Tenhumberg, Head of the City Library.
Colourful programme with presentation of the Library of Things
For the open day, the city library will open its doors from 10 a.m. and will be available to answer any questions about the library and its services. Throughout the day, our current book recommendations will be presented in the Book Talk Corner on the ground floor.
A very special highlight will be the presentation of the Library of Things at 10.30 a.m., where everyday items can be borrowed under the motto "Loan instead of buy", saving resources and costs. The Library of Things was newly established in the anniversary year and is intended to contribute to more sustainable consumer behaviour. It is named "Güterbahnhof" in reference to the old railway station building - the name was chosen by readers in a social media survey.
Lieselotte reading and tree house party for children
As a literary treat, all visitors young and old can look forward to two very special readings: at 11 a.m., author Alexander Steffensmeier will present what is probably the most famous cow in literary history: "Lieselotte". At 2 p.m., author Stephan Bach will then take all interested parties on an interactive and guaranteed turbulent journey in the magical tree house.
The programme in the library
The open day will take place from 10 am to 4 pm in the city library (media centre). The programme on the premises of the city library is free of charge and without registration. Tickets for the two readings are now on sale at the library. Admission to the readings is 5 euros per ticket.
