Bocholt celebrates "100 years of the city library"
Colourful programme of events in the anniversary year // Kick-off looks back on the history of the company // Thursday, 25 January, 7 p.m. in the foyer, admission free
Bocholt City Library is celebrating its centenary this year. Anniversary events will take place every month throughout the year. The first event is a look back at the history of the library.
On Thursday, 25 January, the city library invites all interested parties to the opening event of the anniversary programme to mark its 100th anniversary. The event will take place in the foyer of the city library (Hindenburgstraße 5). The event starts at 7 pm and admission is free. Together with the audience, the changes to the city library from its foundation at its first location in 1924 to the establishment of a "th location" in today's media centre will be examined. A subsequent tour of the library is possible. Registrations can be made at the city library, by email to stadtbibliothek(at)bocholt(dot)de or by telephone on 02871/953-2288.
Colourful programme of events in the anniversary year
Bocholt City Library was founded in December 1924. On the occasion of its one hundredth anniversary, the team at the city library has prepared a colourful anniversary programme to celebrate this milestone birthday together with the people of Bocholt. It is important to us to celebrate the anniversary year with all our readers. That's why there will be different highlights every month and we hope that all generations will enjoy the year of events and rediscover the library and all it has to offer", says Isabel Testroet, Head of the Adult Education Centre, City Library and JUNGE UNI Bocholt.
A look back at the stages of the city library
The launch event on Thursday, 25 January 2024, will look back at the individual stages and locations of the city library. It opened as a municipal institution with a collection of 1,200 books in the old town hall on Ravardistraße. Several decades would pass between various moves and locations such as the historic town hall, Benölkenplatz and the Denninghoff factory building on Nordwall to the current location in the old railway station building on Hindenburgstraße.
"We invite all interested parties to a cosy exchange about the individual milestones in the local library's history and a look back at the rapid development of the media", says Melanie Tenhumberg, Head of the City Library. "Together we would like to toast the successful development of the city library over the last 100 years!
