Renate Volks-Kuhlmann is the new head of the city archive
At the beginning of June, the qualified archivist Renate Volks-Kuhlmann took over the management of the Bocholt municipal archives. She had been in charge of the district archive in Borken for more than 20 years.
Renate Volks-Kuhlmann began her archival career at the North Rhine-Westphalian Main State Archives in Düsseldorf after graduating from Mariengymnasium Bocholt. For more than 20 years, she headed the Borken District Archive. Most recently, she coordinated the work of the historical district archive and the city archive of Vreden in the cultural centre kult Westmünsterland of the district of Borken in Vreden.
"With Ms Volks-Kuhlmann, we are pleased to have gained an expert who has both a scientific and an educational view of the work in the archive. The development of our town archive as a place of research on the one hand and a place of learning also for young people and lay people who are enthusiastic about town history on the other hand will benefit from this," emphasised First Councillor Thomas Waschki.
Focus topic: Digitalisation
The archivist sees one focus of future work in digitisation. "In order to set up the archive in a future-oriented and legally secure way, the digitisation and introduction of an electronic long-term archive is indispensable. Digitalisation in particular offers a great opportunity to open up even more to young people and to present our treasures to a wider public," says the archivist.
Strengthening cooperation with other historical and cultural actors is also an important concern for the head of the Culture and Archives Division, Oliver Brenn. "Especially the preparations and celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the city have shown how important joint planning can be for a successful cultural experience. I am convinced that with Renate Volks-Kuhlmann we have been able to gain a committed and communicative employee who will successfully help shape this task in the future," Oliver Brenn explains.
