Maths show in the lecture hall of the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences
City of Bocholt invites 430 pupils // Influencers inspire with brainteasers
The JUNGE UNI of the city of Bocholt invited the surrounding secondary schools to a maths show with the social media influencers Josef Naber and Johannes Mensing, better known as "MatheMind".
"MathMind": 240,000 followers on TikTok
In two events, a total of 430 pupils were convinced that "anyone can do maths" - because that's what the speakers' slogan says.
"We are delighted that so many pupils accepted our invitation and that we are finally able to use and fill a lecture hall at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences again after the long pandemic break," says Jennifer Engels, head of the JUNGE UNI in Bocholt.
Packaged in a maths show à la "Who wants to be a millionaire", alternative calculation methods from China and India were presented, but also topics such as probability calculation and linear and exponential growth were vividly conveyed.
Josef Naber and Johannes Mensing are successful social media influencers: On TikTok(@mathe_mind) they regularly inspire more than 240,000 followers, and on Instagram(@mathe_mind) more than 62,000 users follow them.
Following this entertaining show, the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences took the opportunity to vividly present, with the support of the robot "Nao", the soon-to-be-launched robotics degree programme, but also one of the JUBoh courses for the summer semester 2023. An exoskeleton and work with VR glasses were also used.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Naber was pleased to have the opportunity to give the pupils a small insight into university life and the degree programmes offered at the Bocholt location.
