The special film "Black Dog - companions"
The city of Bocholt presents this award-winning Chinese drama about an ex-convict and a stray dog in China in 2008. Dog and man embark on an emotional and extremely visually stunning journey together. The film is shown in cooperation with the German-Chinese Society Bocholt e.V..
After 10 years in prison, Lang (Eddie Peng) returns to his Chinese hometown in the Gobi Desert in 2008, but everything has changed. Stray dogs roam the deserted streets and the authorities want to eradicate the animals, especially the dreaded "Black Dog", to make the city more attractive to investors.
When Lang joins a dog-catching team, he develops a deep bond with the lone animal "Black Dog". Instead of hunting him down, he decides to escape with the dog. A journey begins that will change their lives forever.
The interactions between Lang and the animals are touching and are brought to the screen in extraordinary images. The fact that the important and award-winning Chinese director Jia Zhangke also plays a guest role in the film underlines its artistic and thematic relevance.
The animals function as a metaphor for humans, who are degraded to objects of administration by the omnipresent system.
The film lasts 110 minutes. The film was directed by Guan Hu.
