Sparta - The Special Film
Drama about paedophile tendencies // Tuesday 12 September// 8 pm// Kinodrom// 6 euros// Culture pass possible// The story of two brothers in whose lives the patriarchal violence of their father meets different breeding grounds.
The extroverted artist "Richie Bravo" is a washed-up pop singer and struggles with the demands of a daughter who has unexpectedly turned up. His introverted brother Ewald is a power plant engineer. The link between the two is their demented father in Austria, who has always remained true to his Nazi ideology. Ewald buys an old school in poor Romania and builds a fortress for boys there called "Sparta", posing as a judo coach. Despite his own strong stature, Ewald often seems lost, insecure and frightened. He struggles with his paedophilic tendencies. The film exposes the consequences of brutal gender-stereotypical parenting, but it does not give a pass for the brothers' clearly wrong actions. A film that resonates for a long time and is very haunting in its documentary style.
101 minutes, Director: Ulrich Seidl
