From A like "American Girl" to Y like "Yer so Bad": Almost two hours of programme with hits, pearls and eternal live favourites. Committed to the original with respect, but also with the courage to do their own interpretation. Brought to the stage by a colourful group of Hagen musicians with completely different backgrounds, but united by the larger-than-life songs of Tom Petty.
Josh Huff and Christopher Heimer, two of the most active musicians in Hagen's lively scene, had been toying with the idea of a Tom Petty tribute band for some time. Someday, when there would be time for it and the master himself might not go on tour any more. In June 2017, at a festival in LA, Christopher had personally gained the impression that this would not happen any time soon. Three and a half months later, Petty was suddenly dead.
On the very same day, Richard Hoppe from the band Laika lebt, a friend of Christopher's, raised the question of whether they shouldn't just do something. After all, when Bowie died and Richard still lived in Glasgow, tributes were on every corner. And since he inherited his uncle's Petty records, Richard has been a fan with heart and soul. The idea was born - and the Hagen Heartbreakers were complete within a few days with Jan "Brenna" Kölpin and Tini "Benmont" Brühne on drums and keys. As a true "Scott Thurston", multi-instrumentalist Michael Rolke (Symphonic Floyd, Green) could also be won for the twelve-string, blues harp and backgrounds.
Only one month after Petty's death, Josh Blackbird and The Brokenhearts delivered a memorable show in front of a full house at the Pelmke Kulturzentrum in Hagen, of which visitors still speak enthusiastically today.
