"Colonos" - The special film
Historical western about the conquest of Patagonia at the beginning of the 20th century. Chile's official Oscar entry about a suppressed chapter in colonial history.
Tierra del Fuego, Chile, 1901: landowner José Menédez plans to build a safe transport route to the Atlantic.
He hires three men with experience in the use of weapons to drive out the indigenous population and open up the route to the Atlantic. The men are extremely brutal and ruthless in their actions.
With the visually stunning landscapes, the driving musical accompaniment and the unsparing shots, the director takes the audience from the abyss to hell. He shows the cruel frenzy of barbarism.
The intensity of the film is heightened by the original Spanish soundtrack with subtitles.
