With Bass Summit, Henning Gailing presents a formation that is special in every respect: 3 double basses plus a high-calibre piano and drum line-up. The band is modelled on the formation "Superbass" around the legendary Ray Brown, who thrilled audiences in the 90s with a similar concept. Bass Summit was formed a year ago for a concert at the Düren Jazz Club.

Double bass players usually play in the background of a band. When the double bass starts to solo, the rest of the group falls silent so that the focus can be on the instrument, which is somewhat quieter than the other members. Bass Summit simply turns the tables: themes are presented with a lot of groove and swing, solos are played and colleagues are sensitively accompanied. Henning Gailing and the American bassist John Goldsby (until last December the bassist of the WDR Big Band) are responsible for the arrangements and bring along the very talented young bassist Tristan Sorg from Cologne. Ultimately, there are three generations on stage: Goldsby was Gailing's teacher and both were Sorg's teachers! And then there's the current WDR rhythm section with the American Billy Test and the Dutchman Hans Dekker. An absolute highlight not only for fans of low notes!
