About the town hall
Bocholt's town hall on Berliner Platz is architecturally unique. It was designed by the renowned German architect and Pritzker Prize winner Gottfried Böhm.
The eye-catching building with its glass façade and bright green steel elements is used for multiple purposes : It is the seat of the city administration, the centre of political life with the council chamber and an open community centre with a cultural centre and adjoining municipal theatre.
The town hall on Berliner Platz was officially opened in 1977. The so-called "New Town Hall" - Bocholt also has a historic town hall on the market square - is located on an artificial island in the Bocholter Aa, just a few minutes' walk from the city centre.
The building has been a listed building since 2016.
The town hall has been undergoing extensive refurbishment since February 2020. The municipal offices have been relocated.
