Environmental technologist for pipeline networks & industrial plants

The environmental technologist for pipe networks and industrial plants (formerly: specialist for pipe, sewer and industrial services) is one of the new environmental engineering professions. The specialist's tasks include cleaning, inspecting, monitoring and maintaining the sewer network and special structures.

The three-year training programme takes place at the waste disposal and service company (ESB) of the city of Bocholt, with vocational training taking place at the Hans-Schwier-Berufskolleg in Gelsenkirchen.

Environmental technologists for pipeline networks and industrial plants specialising in pipeline networks use special cameras to check sewers for leaks and contamination, for example. They check and repair pipes, basins and channels in the sewer network. In the industrial systems specialisation, they drain, clean and maintain systems.

The first 15 months include

• Business management processes, work organisation,
• information, documentation, quality assurance measures,
• environmental protection technology,
• machine and process engineering, measurement, control and regulation technology,
• material processing and
• storage, tools and equipment

The last 15 months include

• Work preparation,
• respiratory, fire and explosion protection,
• safety engineering and environmental protection
• cleaning and waste disposal
