International projects
Added value for Bocholt
International cooperation has been a matter of course for Bocholt for decades. Due to its proximity to the border with the Netherlands, the city of Bocholt is particularly active in this field. Bocholt has also maintained relations with its three twin towns Aurillac (France), Rossendale (England) and its Belgian namesake Bocholt for many years.
Relationships and projects bring the European idea to life
International relations thrive on encounters between citizens, but also on jointly developed and designed measures and projects that are intended to provide added value for the partners involved. In this context, the European Office Bocholt "International Projects" helps citizens to find out which and how international measures and projects can be promoted.
The European Union (EU) provides funding for many international measures in Europe. In order to distribute these subsidies to the individual regions of Europe, there are different funds with a variety of funding programmes. The EU uses funding policy to steer its regional development and the implementation of the Europe 2020 Strategy.
Most of the European funding is not allocated directly in Brussels, but in the individual member states. About 80 percent of the funds flow into national or state-wide programmes and are administered by the authorities responsible there. An important partner for cross-border projects for border towns like Bocholt is the Euregio. Among other things, part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is administered here.
