Special exhibition: Patterns and markets | On the trail of Westphalian African prints
Opening of the exhibition: Friday, 25 April at 7 pm with "Get Together" and tour. | The exhibition goes in search of clues and sheds light on the often invisible links between the textile finishing companies Heinrich Habig AG and Göcke & Sohn AG and colonial trade structures.
Between the 1920s and 1970s, they also produced so-called African prints. The companies are exemplary of an economic system that profited from colonial power relations. While entrepreneurial positions are well documented thanks to numerous files, the exhibition deliberately opens up new perspectives.
The exhibition was curated by a group of Master's students of Cultural Anthropology of Textiles at TU Dortmund University under the direction of Prof Joachim Baur.
