King Leontes of Sicily suspects his wife Hermione of infidelity with his friend Polixenes. He banishes his newborn daughter and her mother drops dead when she learns that her son has also fallen. The Oracle of Delphi sees nothing good for the king's future. However, when the lost daughter returns to court, lovers, family and friends are reunited.
