Intercultural music festival

Closing party of the Intercultural Week 2023 in Bocholt

It's an old saying that music brings people together. When stories are told to go with it, the mixture is perfect.
This is exactly the mixture that will be on offer this evening from 7 - 11 pm in the Alte Molkerei. Bocholt artists, with and without an international family history, will be making music and telling stories on this evening, captivating the audience with their colourful and entertaining performances.

Mi, Ear Candy, Plain Old Three and Gina's Ballerinas will be performing.

Mi: The artist writes about herself with an ironic undertone: " As a child of Asian parents, I had two musical options. You have the choice between piano or violin. Since a violin or a piano didn't necessarily fit into the budget of Asian parents, I first had to buy a simple Casio keyboard in the 90s. The question of singing lessons was also answered as follows: 'Why take singing lessons when you can sing for free with our karaoke system. You'll have a live audience with your uncles and aunts and at least they'll be honest with you when their ears hurt because they're not being paid for it. It felt like every Asian household had a karaoke system as standard in the 2000s. Nothing was used more often than the karaoke system ... and the rice cooker. Today, 23 years later, it's enough for an upgrade to an electric piano and Shure SM58 microphone. True to stereotype, Mi will play something on the piano and entertain and amaze her audience with some karaoke classics from the 2000s and current times.

Ear Candy: Seven Bocholter:innen (Alina Kruse, Rieka Möllenbeck and Björn Lentge (Vocals), Matthias Wigger (Drums), William al Akrad (Acoustic Guitar), Arne Hüls (Bass) and Simon Hallwaß (Piano & Vocals), who met through the Bocholt Music School and share more than just a passion for music, perform songs from various genres that go right through the hit lists and years. They perform solos and duets or all together sing a "Ear Candy" (candy for the ears)!

Plain Old Three is a new acoustic group that was formed by chance. The three of them (Benedikt Winkler, Elton Harapi and Edlira Harapi) once played together in a jam session and because they enjoyed making music together, they formed a group. The music they play is a mixture of blues, jazz, pop and soul. They like to play songs from the 60s,70s,80s because they want the music that was made back then to live on. Benedikt Winkler studied music at the University of Cologne and Elton Harapi studied drums and percussion in Florence, Italy. Edlira is a self-taught painter and singer who studied finance and accounting in Tirana, Albania. Edlira and Elton are both from Albania and have been working and living in Germany (Bocholt) since 2017. They are both active at art events in Bocholt and the surrounding area. On 29 September, the three of them are very much looking forward to making music in the Alte Molkerei. There will be some Albanian music, but also country, blues songs etc.

Gina's Ballerinas: Canadian Gina Cirjak with Greek roots has been training dancers from Croatia, France, Albania, Turkey, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, China, Spain and of course Germany for many years. On this evening, they will be putting on a special performance for all spectators.
