Menno Daams, one of the most distinguished Dutch trumpeters, will be a guest at the Alte Molkerei. At the beginning of his career, he intensively studied the playing style of Louis Armstrong and his contemporaries, and is now regarded as a specialist in swinging styles from swing to bebop. He is a much sought-after soloist and has played with Jake Hanna, Scott Hamilton, Warren Vaché, Dan Barrett, Howard Alden, Lew Tabackin, Lee Konitz, Toots Thielemans and Monty Alexander, among others. For years, pianist Jerry Lu has been a much sought-after artist on national and international concert stages such as the Ruhr Piano Festival. He has also performed in Bocholt as an outstanding soloist and accompanist at a number of recent jazz evenings. This time, Cologne drummer Oliver Mewes will be on drums. He is regarded as a sensitive, attentive accompanist and virtuoso, always tasteful soloist. His stylistically extremely broad palette of sound colours makes him a sought-after partner for musicians of the most diverse styles of swinging jazz. He has already worked with jazz greats such as Dick Hyman, Harry Allen and Hazy Osterwald. As a permanent member of the band Echoes of Swing (1998 - 2019) and Engelbert Wrobel's Swing Society, concert tours have taken him around the globe. Henning Gailing and Oliver Mewes have known each other since they studied together at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and have played many concerts together since then and can be heard together on several CD recordings. However, this 114th JazzAbend will be the first time that the well-rehearsed rhythm duo will present themselves to the Bocholt audience.
