The special film: "Toni and Helene"
Tragicomedy as a witty road movie // Tuesday, 11 March at 8 pm at the Kinodrom // Admission 7 euros
On Tuesday 11 March, the city of Bocholt presents the tragicomedy "Toni and Helene" as part of the series "The Special Film". Two dissimilar women set off together to a death clinic in Switzerland. Without a driving licence in a fancy Jaguar, they defy all odds in a pragmatic and sometimes hilarious way.
Helene is already over 80 years old. Her glamorous days as a theatre actress are long gone. Today, she spends her days in a retirement home. She also suffers from an incurable illness and realises that her life is coming to an end. She therefore makes the decision to end her life herself while she is still able.
The plan is to do this in a so-called hospice in Switzerland. But she can't count on her nephew's understanding or his chauffeur service. Instead, Helene finds an unexpected ally in Toni. Together they set off for Switzerland. The opposing women become allies and friends.
The theme of self-determination up to the "last decision" is brought to the screen with great skill and ease.
The film lasts 95 minutes. The film was directed by Sabine Hiebler and Erhard Ertl. Trailers and tickets are available at www.kinodrom.de.
