Grundschulverbund Liebfrauen is now a "School without Racism"
To mark World Children's Day, the "School without Racism" plaque has now been unveiled in the sports hall of the Liebfrauen primary school in Stenern. The primary school is now the second primary school in the district to join the network, which is committed to promoting greater tolerance.
"The city of Bocholt is proud of you", said Bocholt's First City Councillor Björn Volmering in his welcoming speech. "You children are the better teachers here, because you remind us that we are all equal, regardless of our origin", said Volmering.
Pupils from the four year groups gathered in the primary school gym to unveil the new plaque and celebrate World Children's Day together. Together, everyone sang the song "We want to stand up".
"We sing that song at our school too, but I've never heard it so great and so loud", said Susanne Temminghoff, Headmistress of the August Vetter Vocational College. She had come to the ceremony together with pupils from the differentiation course, as the project was carried out as a joint project between GSV Liebfrauen and August-Vetter-Berufskolleg - and the vocational college has also been part of the network for around two weeks.

Marina Hegering, a former international footballer from Bocholt, has been won as the project's godmother. Headmaster Torsten Wübling played a greeting from the footballer on a large screen. "This really is a great project that you have taken up the cause", said Hegering in her greeting.
About the project
The title "School without Racism - School with Courage" is not just an award - it is a commitment for the future, explained Sandra Niehaves-Tanjsek from the Department of Education, Schools, Culture and Sport in the Borken district. It means that the pupils are committed to supporting sustainable projects at their school to overcome discrimination and racism.
She praised the cooperation between the vocational college and primary school: "This is truly unique", said Niehaves-Tanjsek. She emphasised that there are only two primary schools in the entire Borken district that are part of the network.
