Berkelland

The Dutch municipality of Berkelland has more than 45,000 inhabitants and consists of the main centres of Borculo, Ruurlo, Eibergen and Neede. It covers an area of 260 square kilometres. Berkelland borders the Dutch provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel as well as Germany.

Tourism

Besides the beautiful nature, wooded areas and numerous rivers, Berkelland has many attractions, such as the numerous and varied museums. Berkelland also has a wide range of camping and other accommodation. There are also plenty of recreational opportunities and events in the beautiful green surroundings. For example, hiking and cycling tours, tree climbing and a play paradise, six kilometres over the border, attract visitors.

The towns

Borculo is very interesting from a cultural and historical point of view. On the Berkel in the town centre there is a beautiful water mill, built in 1628. Next door, in the former oil mill, "the Olliemölle" receives its guests. In Ruurlo is the beautiful castle "Kasteel Huize Ruurlo", which houses the largest museum for Modern Realism in the Netherlands "Museum MORE". Neede has become famous beyond the country's borders for its annual jam market "Nationale Jammarkt". As in the other villages, nature is one of the main attractions in Neede: "De Needse Berg" is a geological site. The "Needse Achterveld" is a special nature reserve. In Eibergen there is also another idyllic spot on the banks of the Berkel with the water mill "de Mallumse Molen".

Economic structure

Berkelland is a diverse and lively municipality with 20,000 jobs. Due to its location on the German-Dutch border, the region has a lot to offer as a business location. The area, which is strongly influenced by agriculture, is characterised above all by a large variety of industrial enterprises and service companies with an international orientation. Beltrum, for example, is home to the world's largest clog factory, and Ruurlo is home to high-tech companies such as Bronkhorst. Economically, the municipality has seen many progressive developments.

Access to the transport network

The N18 and the N315 are the most important entry and exit routes for the municipality of Berkelland. They connect the region with the surrounding municipalities and indirectly provide a link to the German transport network.
