Bocholt Seniors' Advisory Council visits Belgian twin town

The senior citizens' advisory council of the city of Bocholt has now travelled to Bocholt's twin town of Belgian Bocholt with some members of the senior citizens' group "Mouse Mobil" and other senior citizens.

When they arrived in Belgian Bocholt, all participants were warmly welcomed. The official welcome by the delegates, the alderman and the chairman of the local seniors' council took place over coffee and cake in the town hall. Agnes Epping, Chairwoman of the Bocholt Seniors' Council, gave a speech for the German guests and presented the gifts they had brought with them.

Lunch then took place in a converted theatre hall, where 120 other senior citizens from Belgian Bocholt were waiting. This opportunity was used to socialise. After lunch, the group returned to the city centre to walk the newly created " dementia trail". This tour also provided a short guided tour of the city centre, visiting buildings such as the church, the library and other places of interest.

Finally, the trip led to the community centre in Reppel, a district of Belgian Bocholt. The participants were impressed by the community centre, a converted church that continues to hold services and also houses a café and a conference room. The use of the church space in the spirit of community was well received by all.

After saying goodbye, the group travelled home. "The visit to the twin town of Belgian Bocholt was a wonderful day, and everyone agreed: this trip absolutely has to be repeated", said not only the German senior citizens.

The group was accompanied by Sarah Bußmann and Marie Brand from the city of Bocholt's senior citizens' office.
