Feeding birds in Bocholt city centre causes problems

Pigeons and rats are also attracted // Current focus on Liebfrauenplatz

Some animal lovers are currently scattering bird food regularly and generously in Bocholt city centre. An employee of the waste disposal and service company (ESB) has now noticed this, particularly in the Liebfrauenviertel neighbourhood. Large quantities of bird food are being distributed there - presumably to feed the songbirds.

Feeding not only attracts songbirds, but also pigeons. They leave behind a large amount of droppings that contaminate buildings and squares. In addition, pests such as rats are also attracted by the food laid out. If the grains settle in the joints, they can only be removed partially or not at all.

The ESB therefore appeals to animal lovers to refrain from scattering bird food in public areas in future.

In this context, the city council would like to point out that feeding wild pigeons and ducks on public streets and squares is prohibited under Bocholt local law.
