FW Bocholt: Fire on farm in Biemenhorst
Bocholt (ots) -
This morning at about 5:45 a.m. some straw bales caught fire in a farm at Möllenstegge in Bocholt-Biemenhorst. About 120 bales of straw were stored in a remote part of the barn, some of which caught fire. Fortunately, neither persons nor animals were harmed.
The fire brigade used a jet pipe to prevent further encroachment on the stable building and, with the support of the farmers, moved the animals to a safe part. Later, the firefighters set up a storage area for the burning straw in a nearby field, where it could be pulled apart and extinguished with additional jet pipes. For the water supply, a well about 350 m away was put into operation and a water line was built over a long distance.
About 40 firefighters from the Bocholt Volunteer Fire Brigade were deployed with 12 vehicles. Due to the special situation in the outer area, the volunteer fire brigade was promptly called in. In addition, numerous special vehicles were used to pump water for fire-fighting. The operation was completed after 5 hours.
