FW Bocholt: Dangerous goods leak on company premises - 4 persons affected

FW Bocholt (ots) -

The Bocholt fire brigade was called to the premises of a forwarding agency in the Schlavenhorst industrial estate in Bocholt at 17:20. Apparently, a product leakage had occurred on the loading area of a truck loaded with 40% hydrofluoric acid. The product leakage was detected by strong smelling vapours. The substance is highly corrosive and toxic.

The rescue service of the fire brigade treated four affected persons on arrival and then transported them to the St. Agnes Hospital in Bocholt for observation as a precautionary measure. As it was initially unclear exactly how much and which substance had leaked out, emergency personnel were deployed under chemical protective suits. This necessitated an extensive deployment of personnel as well as material for the decontamination measures for the forces deployed. In the course of the operation, three 20 kg containers were recovered by the emergency services and packed in salvage drums. Other large containers were also checked.

In addition to about 90 firefighters from the Bocholt fire brigade, the NBC platoon and the information and communication unit of the Borken district were alerted to the scene. The basic protection was also provided by the volunteer fire brigade at the fire and rescue station.
Thus, about 130 emergency personnel with 22 vehicles were deployed.
