FW Bocholt: Bocholt fire brigade looks back on a busy transition to the new year
Bocholt (ots) -
For the Bocholt fire brigade, the transition into the new year was characterised by numerous operations. In the period from 31 December 2024, 8:00 a.m., to 1 January 2025, 8:00 a.m., a total of 47 operations were handled. Of these, 35 were for the rescue service and 12 for the fire brigade.
In one case, a person suffered serious injuries from fireworks. After initial treatment by the rescue service, the injured person was transported to hospital under emergency medical supervision. This incident emphasises the dangers that can arise from handling fireworks. Illegally imported or home-made fireworks in particular harbour a high risk, as they often do not meet safety standards and can lead to uncontrolled explosions or unpredictable ignition times.
The firefighting operations mainly involved minor fire and rescue operations. One particularly challenging incident was a car fire on Uferstrasse, where two people were injured by smoke fumes and had to be taken to hospital for further treatment.
The full-time firefighters were supported by volunteers from the volunteer fire brigade, both at the fire and rescue station on Dingdener Straße and at the equipment centre in Suderwick. An additional ambulance was also manned around the clock for the rescue service.
A total of 37 full-time and voluntary fire and rescue service personnel were on duty on New Year's Eve.
