Azra Zürn to become the new head of social affairs in Bonn

Changeover on 1 January 2025 // Consultation on succession after the summer holidays

As the City of Bonn has now announced, EWIBO Managing Director Azra Zürn is to become the new Deputy Head of the Schools, Social Affairs and Youth Department of the City of Bonn. Zürn is to head the department from 1 January 2025.

The city administration of the city of Bonn is proposing the election of the 39-year-old as an alderman for a term of eight years to the city council meeting on 29 August.

"Mrs Zürn kept me up to date on the status of the application process at an early stage and informed me directly of the Bonn mayor's proposal today," explains Bocholt's mayor Thomas Kerkhoff with reference to the announcement from the city of Bonn.

"On behalf of the city of Bocholt, but also personally, I congratulate Mrs Zürn on this possible career move. However, if the election on 29 August goes as announced by the Bonn city administration, the Entwicklungs- und Betriebsgesellschaft Bocholt mbH (EWIBO) will lose a committed and dynamic managing director", said Kerkhoff.

"In addition, the ongoing reorganisation of EWIBO is a central and important development issue for the city of Bocholt, which will certainly be made more difficult by another change in management. After the summer holidays, I will therefore discuss the next steps for a new management team with the parliamentary groups and work out a solution that we can then decide on in the company's Supervisory Board and in the City Council. Nevertheless, we will have to wait until 29 August and the election in the Bonn City Council", says Thomas Kerkhoff.
