During the Bocholt Autumn Fair from 18 to 21 October 2024, special rules will apply for fairgoers in the fairground areas, i.e. in the city centre and on the former fire station site ("An der Bleiche").
They serve to protect and ensure the safety of funfair visitors and are intended to prevent dangers.

Why does the city of Bocholt tighten the safety rules during the funfair days?
The number of knife attacks at major events has unfortunately increased. A ban on carrying weapons and dangerous objects reduces the risk. It's about prevention, protecting health and life, more safety .
The ban on cannabis serves to protect children and young people as well as the general health protection of citizens who do not consume cannabis.

Which weapons and dangerous objects are prohibited at the funfair?
Firearms of all types:
- alarm weapons
- pistols
- revolvers
- rifles
- shotguns
- bolt-action rifles replicas
- and imitations of firearms that can be mistaken for real weapons (prima facie weapons) - exception: obviously recognisable toy weapons air-pressure
- and CO2 weapons, such as air, spring and pellet pistols and rifles or so-called ball-bearing guns

Why is cannabis smoking prohibited at the funfair?
According to the Cannabis Act, cannabis may not be consumed in the immediate vicinity of minors. It is not possible to adhere to the rules set by the Cannabis Act (distances etc.) at the funfair, where crowds of people and many children and young people are crowded together and on the move.
The law also stipulates that citizens who do not consume cannabis must be protected from the direct and indirect consequences of cannabis.
The cannabis ban therefore serves to protect children and young people as well as general health protection.
