Lecture on the "Mentally Healthy 2024" campaign month
Topic: "Understanding and overcoming depression"
On Wednesday, 18 September, the second Bocholt contribution to the district-wide action month "Mentally Healthy 2024" will take place. In cooperation with the adult education centre Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg and the health department of the district of Borken, department "Psychological Health", you are invited to a lecture by Jörg Ristau entitled "Understanding and coping with depression". The venue is LernWerk, Industriestr. 1 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Jörg Ristau, specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy and senior consultant at St. Vinzenz-Hospital Rhede/psychiatric day clinic, will focus his presentation on depression, one of the most common mental illnesses.
Around 5 per cent of the population is currently affected, with one in five Germans suffering from it at least once in their lives. Depression is a serious mental illness with a wide range of symptoms that affects many areas of life and experience: the changes affect the emotional life with a loss of joy, energy and interest. Performance is impaired, the environment is perceived pessimistically, sometimes threateningly.
A number of barriers prevent or delay treatment: many sufferers find it difficult to seek help for various reasons. The available treatment methods are effective, but there is still considerable room for improvement. At the same time, there is also a lot of good news to report; there are now a lot of new and innovative ideas and developments in treatment that are worth reporting on.
The specialist lecture will focus on diagnostic procedures as well as known and new treatment options for depression. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for an expert-led Q&A session. Please book in advance to reserve a place at www.vhs-bocholt.de.
