BOCHOLT WANDERT - the hiking experience in Bocholt

The city of Bocholt invites you to a special hiking experience: The "Bocholt Wandert" event will take place on 22 September 2024.

Three varied hiking routes over 8 km, 15 km and 25 km offer the right challenge for every fitness level. The starting point is the picturesque Diepenbrock Castle in Bocholt-Barlo. Here, participants can experience scenic routes that take them through Bocholt-Barlo and northwards to Woold in the Netherlands. Between 8:00 and 17:00, up to 2,000 hikers are expected to explore the region.

Registration

Interested hikers can still buy tickets for the event up to and including 7 September via www.bocholt-gutschein.de/tickets or at the Tourist-Info Bocholt.

Pre-check-in

Pre-check-in is offered to ensure smooth organisation:

From 17 to 19 September between 10:00 and 16:00 and on 20 September from 10:00 to 13:00 at Stadtmarketing Bocholt, Osterstraße 23 (Liebfrauenparkplatz entrance). All participants who wish to check in in advance will receive their hiking pass here and can then come directly to Schloss Diepenbrock at their respective start time on 22 September. The hard ticket or online ticket that participants have purchased via the Chayns system must be brought with them to check in.

Check-In

Anyone who is unable to collect their hiking pass from the city marketing office in the week before the event can of course still do so on 22 September before their respective starts. Please allow some time in advance for this.

All children who would like to do the puzzle fun with Bokeltje along the way will also receive their puzzle template at the check-in.

Routes

The three hiking routes will be posted as a link on the website www.bocholt.de/bocholtwandert in the week before the hiking day and can then be downloaded and viewed via komoot.

Information on the traffic situation and safety

There will be temporary road closures to ensure the safety of participants. Affected roads include:

  • The cycle and hiking path between Büffelhof Kragemann and Eschhegge 5 will be closed to cyclists and a diversion will be set up via Kotts Stegge and Eschhegge (22/09/24 in the morning).
  • The road Zum Venn between Winterswijker Straße and Dölls Diek will be closed until approx. 15:00.

Participants are asked to be careful, especially in areas with poor visibility. Several areas will be secured by signage, flashing lights and marshals. In principle, the general traffic regulations apply and walkers are responsible for their own road safety.

Residents and neighbours along the routes north of Barlo to Woold in the Netherlands are asked to drive with particular care on 22 September.

Arrival and parking facilities

The organisers ask that as many participants as possible arrive by bike, as car parking spaces are not infinitely available. Bicycles can be parked directly on the castle grounds and will be instructed by THW youth helpers.

If you are travelling by car, please share a vehicle with several people if possible so that the number of cars can be reduced. Car parking spaces will be designated around Diepenbrock Castle, with a walking distance of up to 1,000 metres to the start/finish area; visitors to the event are requested to leave the parking spaces designated directly at the castle to the walkers and to use parking spaces further back.

An overview of the car parks can be found shortly before the event at www.bocholt.de/bocholtwandert.

Catering on the way

All participants are asked to bring their own water bottle, which can be refilled at the refreshment stations. Participants on the 25 km route should also bring crockery (preferably a bowl with a lid) and cutlery (fork or spoon) for the hot meal provided by Malteser International in order to minimise the amount of waste.

Mobile toilets are available at all aid stations.

Varied supporting programme

In addition to the hikes, the event site at Diepenbrock Castle offers a comprehensive supporting programme for the whole family. There are great play opportunities for younger guests, including a climbing tower, a bouncy castle and a small fleet of vehicles. Partners and exhibitors will also be presenting interesting topics relating to health, hiking and fitness. For example, there will be offers from Intersport Pieron, the hiking brand Lowa and exciting health offers from DAK-Gesundheit, such as body weight measurements, a balance test on the balance board, the creation of buttons, can throwing, a standing long jump, a balancing wall for younger visitors and a photo box from Volksbank Bocholt for all hikers as a souvenir of their tour. Delicious food and drinks will be available for visitors and participants around the Schlosscafé Diepenbrock.
