Graffiti show the future and past of Bocholt's city library

Young Bocholters take part in "Kulturrucksack" workshop // Works exhibited in the entrance hall of the media centre

Anyone entering the media centre now will be amazed: four eye-catching graffiti artworks by young Bocholters can be seen in the entrance hall. They thematise the future and the past of the city library.

The works were created as part of a creative workshop that took place under the expert guidance of graffiti artist Raphael Wiese, funded by the state project "Kulturrucksack NRW".

Learning together, spraying together

In the year of the library's 100th anniversary, the graffiti workshop was held under the motto "The past and future of the library" and offered the young participants the opportunity to realise their creative ideas under professional guidance. Together with Raphael Wiese, they developed initial sketches and drafts either digitally or on paper. These preliminary works were then transferred to prepared wooden canvases and transformed into colourful works of art using spray cans.

"In love with these works"

The four artworks reflect different aspects of Bocholt's city library. "It is impressive to see how the children have developed their initial ideas and realised them in the form of graffiti," comments Melanie Tenhumberg, Head of the City Library. One graffiti, for example, shows well-known book characters from literature. Another work of art looks to the future and deals with modern topics such as gaming and streaming. "We are all very enamoured with these works", adds library employee Claudia Alders.

The graffiti can now be seen in the entrance hall of the media centre. The mini-exhibition is freely accessible during the regular opening hours of the city library.
