The special film
TWO special films from the world of books plus the opportunity to talk to both directors. Shot with or by Bocholters
1. "The bookkeepers"
Atmospheric documentation of the work and passion in the antiquarian bookshop.
The film is a documentary journey through the world of antiquarian booksellers, a dwindling community of people who have dedicated their lives to collecting and preserving old books. The film follows three main characters - Monika Grevers from Bocholt, Rainer Heeke from Breedevoort and Helmut Hümbs-Steinbeck, the director's father. The film tells the story of their daily lives, their passions and the challenges they face in a rapidly changing world. From the perspective of an observer, the film tells of the transformation of the book as a medium and the struggle of the "silent guardians" to maintain the relevance of the book in modern society.
The film is accompanied by atmospheric music and the love of books is staged with pleasantly calm images. A film that resonates and about which the director answers questions.
Director: Christiaan Hümbs-Steinbeck (30 minutes)
2. "The Spökenkikerin and the Fräulein"
In the middle of the 19th century, a noble lady loves a shepherdess. When danger threatens her, the young lady comes to her aid with occult powers.
A historical short film with both mystical and humorous elements. The story is based on the short story of the same name by Charlotte Krafft.
The short film won the Blue Flower Award in the categories best acting performance, best director and best film. At the Münster 2023 film festival, Spökenkiekerin won "Best Short Film" in the Westfalen Connection. The director, who comes from Bocholt, will be available to answer questions in person after the film.
Director: Mark Lorei (30 minutes)
