A "drama" - that is for the rebelliously refreshing and profound comedy Turk Senay Duzcu, Turkish stand-up comedian, that she is not a typical Turk. For her society, this is a drama!
But every attempt to put the conventional stamp on her fails: as a German-Turkish woman, she is "too modern" for the die-hards, "too bound by tradition" for the younger ones, and "too emancipated" for the men as an independent woman.
In her programme she also tells us that it was a drama for her family that she did not become a typical Turk. Her parents would have liked her to become a proper housewife and marry a Turkish man. Because she could not fulfil all this as a woman, she was always the black sheep of the relatives. All her experiences brought her extremely funny situations, which she tells and laughs about on stage.
She is an explosive mixture and, as the daughter of a classic guest worker family, breaks every frame. First as a special pupil with dyslexia and finally as a scholarship holder for the highly gifted, Duzcu moves away from home at the age of 19. After stopovers in London and Berkeley/USA, she returns as the only academic in the family with a diploma in architecture.
In 2007, Duzcu received the German-Turkish Friendship Award in the field of culture and has been one of the best comedy migrants in the country for many years.
Her very unusual stories are written by her own real life.
