City expands range of secure storage facilities for bicycles

Soon there will be new facilities for cyclists who want to park their bikes safely in the city. The parking facilities at Liebfrauenplatz in Bocholt and in front of the arcades (Berliner Platz) will be renewed.

Soon cyclists will be able to safely park their bikes at Liebfrauenplatz in Bocholt. The city wants to gradually expand its range of lockable facilities and boxes.

In the first step, the facility at Liebfrauenplatz will be significantly improved: a section there will be fenced off and equipped with a locking system. As already announced, a system from the state-wide provider "Radbox.nrw" will be used. This will then also be introduced at the station and for the cycle station at Europaplatz.

In future, users will be able to book access to the parking facility and lock up their bike there via an app or a mobile website of the provider. Another innovation: The "old" bicycle racks (front wheel clips) still present at Liebfrauenplatz will be replaced by permanently anchored leaning bars. In total, 30 fenced parking spaces will be created at Liebfrauenplatz, and another 30 parking spaces will remain freely accessible.

According to the city of Bocholt, work on the "enclosure" of the bicycle parking facility at Liebfrauenplatz will begin next week. During the work, the facility cannot be used for a few weeks. The existing bicycle pumping station will also be temporarily dismantled. After completion, the facility will be operated without a locking system for a few more weeks - but it can already be used during this time.

Bicycle boxes at the arcades

Also new: The parking facilities to the right of the main entrance to the arcades (at Berliner Platz) are being modernised: The area will be paved, the old front bike clips will be removed and replaced by comfortable bike leaning bars and, in addition, six lockable bike boxes will be installed in which bikes can be safely parked. These new bike boxes can also be booked and used via Radbox.nrw.

New system also at Europaplatz

The booking and locking system at Europaplatz (bike station) will also be replaced by the Radbox.nrw system. The special feature here: At Europaplatz, access can also be booked directly by coin machine without a user account.
