The Deutsch-Französische Gesellschaft Bocholt e.V. (DFG) is taking the start of its 50th anniversary year as an opportunity to invite interested citizens to a lecture with aperitif and snacks at the restaurant "Filetgran", Casinowall 19 in Bocholt. The event starts at 18:30. The DFG is co-operating with EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt, the BELC network and the Europa-Union Bocholt e.V.

Topic

"Faire la Fête for Franco-German friendship - how resilient is the relationship" sheds light on the political situation in France as the second largest member state of the European Union. Good Franco-German relations have been the driving force behind European unification since the end of the Second World War. In view of the political developments, it is therefore worth taking a look at how resilient the Franco-German relationship is.

The Deutsch-Französische Gesellschaft Bocholt e.V. promotes understanding between Germany and France, fosters contact with French people living in Bocholt and the surrounding area, promotes the spread of the French language and culture and supports the partnership between the city of Bocholt and the twin towns of Aurillac and Arpajon-sur-Cère.

The speaker

Florian Staudt is a European scholar specialising in Franco-German relations and European integration. His comparative study on the culture of protest in Germany and France was recently published by the Study Committee for Franco-German Relations (Cerfa).

As a member of the European Commission's Speakers Pool Team EUROPE DIRECT, Mr Staudt also gives lectures, moderates events and leads seminars on European and France-related topics. He is also involved on a voluntary basis in organisations such as the Europa-Union Berlin and the German-French Society Cluny

Promotion

The event is sponsored by the Franco-German Civic Fund. The Franco-German Citizens' Fund advises, networks and finances projects that bring Franco-German friendship and Europe to life for the general public. It promotes a variety of formats and topics, has a low threshold and is open to all civil society players.

The Citizens' Fund is based on the Treaty of Aachen concluded between Germany and France in 2019 and was established in April 2020. It is implemented by the Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) and is financed in equal parts by the German and French governments.
