"Licht im Leben" is the title of the first novel by 25-year-old Alexander Seidl from Ratingen. The artist, who originally made a name for himself as a German-language singer/songwriter, has long since moved into other creative fields and now works not only as a musician but also as a photographer.

He is embarking on his journey as an author with his first book and will be premiering his own show, which bears the same title as his first work, at Wasserburg Haus zum Haus on 23 April 2024, Book Day.

Licht im Leben - das Programm", is 60 per cent reading, 38 per cent concert and 2 per cent musical and could be described succinctly as a concert reading. The audience is invited to accompany the protagonist Fritz on his journey from his grey everyday working life to the south of France. Who hasn't thought about simply getting on the next train to happiness and not doing it? Fritz makes it easy. The story, which fits onto just 80 pages, tells of the daily grind, the desire to break out, the fascination and disillusionment of setting off and what you can find if you are prepared to set out on a quest. Songs written especially for the programme complement the story and allow the audience to descend even deeper into the emotional world of the characters involved. The songs are orientated towards the development of the story, but also stand for themselves through Seidl's compositional pop style and will probably remain in the memory of some visitors for days after the concert reading.

Just as the characters in "Licht im Leben" correspond to all age groups, there is also something for all ages:a little radio play, a little musical, new music and a whole lot of literature.

If you would like to read the novel in advance, you can buy it in any bookshop.
