On Wednesday, 16 October 2024, the city of Bocholt invites you to the film screening "Unter Hakenkreuz. Westphalia 1933-1945 in amateur film" in the media centre (Alter Bahnhof, Hindenburgstraße 5). The Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg adult education centre and the Bocholt city archives will be showing the historical amateur film footage as part of the city history discussion group. This will be followed by a discussion. Admission is free. The event starts at 6.30 pm.

A new film documentary produced by the LWL Media Centre entitled "Westphalia 1933-1945" provides moving and occasionally depressing insights into the everyday history of the Nazi era. In ten chapters, the documentary sheds light on the period of National Socialism in Westphalia - from the private happiness of the early years, to the transformation of town and shooting festivals, to the "War on the Home Front".

Registration is requested at www.vhs-bocholt.de or by e-mail stadtarchiv(at)bocholt(dot)de. Admission is free.

The 70-minute documentary is based on around 60 amateur films that are permanently archived in the film archive of the LWL Media Centre. The documentary will be shown in eleven parts on the You-Tube channel "Westfalen im Film". The speaker is deputy director of the LWL Media Centre for Westphalia and will give an introduction to the creation and significance of the documentary. He will then be available for questions and discussion. Bocholt's city archivist Renate Volks-Kuhlmann will moderate the event.
