City of Bocholt awards sustainability prize for the first time

Official handover on 8 October at the Westfälische Hochschule // Register now for free

On 8 October, the city of Bocholt invites you to the first festive award ceremony of the Bocholt Sustainability Award, which will take place from 6 pm onwards in the premises of the Westfälische Hochschule Bocholt. Admission to the event is free of charge and interested parties can register for tickets now.

The Bocholt Sustainability Award was created to honour exceptional projects that successfully combine the three pillars of sustainability - social, economic and ecological. At the end of 2022, the city council adopted the " guidelines for awarding the Bocholt Sustainability Prize".

The prize

A total of 24 applications were received, from which a seven-member jury consisting of representatives from politics, administration, business, science and the media selected the three most outstanding projects. During the assessment, particular emphasis was placed on long-term measures that contribute to the conservation of resources, have economic benefits or strengthen social and cultural commitment.

Procedure

Visitors to the award ceremony can look forward to a varied programme. From 6 p.m., some of the applicants will present their projects in the foyer of the university. The official part of the event begins at 7 p.m. with a welcome address by Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff. Following this, Prof Daniela Kattwinkel and Dr Desiree Schulte from the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences will give half-hour presentations on various aspects of sustainability. After the presentation of all applications, the prizes will be ceremoniously presented to the winners.

Prize money and registration

The first prize is endowed with 5,000 euros and includes the planting of a symbolic tree at Lake Aa, which will take place after the award ceremony. The second prize is endowed with 2,500 euros and the third prize with 1,000 euros. The main sponsor of the prize is Bocholter Energie und Wasserversorgung GmbH.

The event will end in a relaxed atmosphere with drinks and finger food, where participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and make new contacts. The Bocholt duo Django Flint will provide musical entertainment. Registrations are now possible free of charge on the website of the city of Bocholt.
