German-Dutch border talks in the second half of 2024
Next event on 12 September at 5 pm // Meeting point Onderduikmuseum Aalten // Cooperation between Gemeente Aalten, VHS Bocholt and EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt
The "Nationaal Onderduikmuseum" in Aalten, Markt 12-16, is the destination of the next German-Dutch Border Talks. The meeting point is directly at the museum on 12 September at 5 pm. The event is part of the educational series "Border Talks" and is open to the public. The Bocholt Adult Education Centre (VHS) accepts registrations online and by telephone. There is no participation fee.
The German-Dutch Border Talks are the successor event to the German-Dutch Stammtisch. In 2024, the cooperation partners decided to change the name so that all citizens in the border region feel addressed, not just those who have already attended the Stammtisch.
Everyone is welcome to take part in order to exchange ideas with neighbours on both sides of the former border. The topics on offer are varied: in the first half of the year, guests were able to gain an insight into the town twinning work. There was also a visit to the crematorium in Aalten. An event on electoral systems in the Netherlands shed light on the special features of both countries, before the half-year ended with a visit to the "De Hennepe" winery in Aalten.
Registration
Separate registration is required for each event. This can be done either via www.vhs-bocholt.de, telephone (02871) 953-2277 or e-mail vhs(at)bocholt(dot)de, stating the relevant course number.
Knowledge of Dutch is not required, as everyone is allowed to speak in their own language and will be translated if necessary.
Offers in the second half of the year
On 12 September at 5 pm, the second half of the "German-Dutch Border Talks" series will start with a visit to the "Nationaal Onderduikmuseum" (Underground Museum) in Aalten. The museum's website states: "Telling the big story with small stories and linking it to democracy and the rule of law in the present day." Participants will learn about going underground and resistance during the Second World War. The event has the course number BS1110A and is free of charge.
On 8 October 2024, the Border Talks will take place as usual at 19:30. At this event, the results of the European elections for Germany and the Netherlands will be analysed.
The respective school systems in the Netherlands and Germany will be discussed on 14 November. After a keynote speech, attendees are, as always, invited to join in the discussion.
Note from the organisers
Interested persons can register on an address list to be informed about all dates in good time. By agreeing to the address list, you also agree to receive a newsletter or event information on both sides of the border.
