The soloist
Kristina Brodersen began playing classical piano at the age of 5 and switched to saxophone at the age of 13, taking lessons from Peter Decker and Lee Konitz, among others. She also took lessons at the jazz department of the University of New Orleans. In 1995, she was honoured with the Jazz Prize of the border triangle (Saarland-Luxembourg-Rhineland-Palatinate). She began her jazz studies in Mainz with Peter Reiter, which she later continued and successfully completed in Cologne with Frank Gratkowski and Wolfgang Engstfeld. In 1998, she co-founded the band "The Sidewinders", with whom she won first prize in the "Jugend jazzt" competition and first prize in the Biberach Jazz Competition. In 2000, the band toured Texas and recorded their first record. Kristina Brodersen played in the Saarland and Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestras and was a member of the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra for several years, with whom she played concerts in Germany and Russia under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer. Further concert tours through Germany, Slovenia and Portugal followed. She founded the "Brodersen-Weindorf Quartet" with pianist Tobias Weindorf.
